The article, “9 Things Only Someone With Chronic Pain Understands,” by Kristen Domonell addresses the various ways in which persistent pain impacts the lives of the nearly 100 million Americans who suffer from it. In addition to increased risk of depression and suicide, and strained relationships with family, friends and romantic partners, many chronic pain patients have trouble concentrating, as their all-encompassing pain leaves little room to focus on anything else.
Dr. Christo also notes how pain sufferers often feel misunderstood because pain is invisible, which leaves many people with chronic pain feeling like they’re suffering all alone or people don’t believe them. Read the full article here.
