Aches and Gains had an interesting year full of hot topics and interesting stories. Some of my favorite topics to discuss were also your favorites. Many of you were most interested in texting neck pain which is an affliction that affects every single one of us. Others wanted to know more about Elvis Presley and what was really happening backstage. AJ Langer from My So Called Life shared her fibromyalgia story and we discovered Jin Shin Jyutsu, a Japanese touch therapy. Let’s review all that we have discussed over the past year.
Elvis Presley: Head Trauma, Autoimmunity, Agonizing Pain
Elvis Presley was an interesting topic that I loved to explore. He is one of the most celebrated musicians and his death is still controversial. Was it a drug overdose, or a heart attack? Elvis’ medical history was complex and I dove into it with Dr. Forrest Tennant, pain specialist. We had the extraordinary opportunity to learn about Elvis’ health, personal life, and legacy. I discussed how Elvis’ head trauma may have led to a possible autoimmune disorder and constant pain. Could Elvis have had fibromyalgia? Quite possibly. https://paulchristomd.com/elvis-presley-head-trauma-autoimmunity-and-agonizing-pain-part-iv/
Text Neck Pain
I really enjoyed sharing this topic with all of you because it affects everyone with a cell phone, which is pretty much all of us. The term “Text Neck” was coined in 2008, we’ve been seeing more patients with neck pain and headaches. Text neck is a repetitive strain injury caused by looking down at your phone reading messages, spending long periods of time on social media, and answering emails. I interviewed Ty Warner, the creator of Beanie Babies. He not only eliminated his symptoms, but also developed a toy to prevent neck pain. You’ll learn something new every time you listen to this two part show. Apply it to your life in the new year and see how your neck pain improves. https://paulchristomd.com/text-neck-pain/
Fibromyalgia with AJ Langer
Fibromyalgia affects up to 4% of the population, and leads to widespread body pain, fatigue, sleep disturbance, and even memory problems. Women are nine times more frequently affected than men. Actress AJ Langer shared her story including struggles and success following her diagnosis as a teenager. A simple Japanese touch therapy
Jin Shin Jyutsu (JSJ) is a little known Japanese healing art that can relieve pain, restore emotional equilibrium, and harmonize the vital energy of the whole person. Cathy Calvert shared her story about how JSJ left her pain-free after a horse accident. Jennifer Bradley, who is a certified JSJ practitioner explained her occupation and how JSJ helps with healing pain. https://paulchristomd.com/jin-shin-jyutsu-a-simple-japanese-touch-therapy-part-i/
