Bachelorette alum J.P. Rosenbaum has been diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome.
The 42-year-old reality TV star and his wife, Ashley Hebert, shared the news about his shocking diagnosis on social media on Sunday.
“JP was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome yesterday,” Ashley posted alongside a photo of her husband lying in a hospital bed. “He is in treatment and doing well. It may be a long road to full recovery, but we are so grateful to everyone that has helped us get to a speedy diagnosis and treatment.”
J.P. also took to his Instagram Stories to share that the experience has been “very surreal and humbling and crazy, rare.”
“Things you do every day, like picking up this phone, or buttoning buttons, tying shoelaces, putting on deodorant, just can’t do it,” he said in a video describing the rare autoimmune disorder, which according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, causes a person’s own immune system to damage its nerves, causing muscle weakness and sometimes paralysis.
“Picking up my kids, can’t do it. Wiping your a**, maybe TMI, but might have Ashley assist on the next one,” he added.
J.P. also shared that he’ll be spending the next few days in the hospital so doctors can monitor if his symptoms have plateaued, followed by “lots of physical therapy.”
The Bachelor Nation couple met on season 7 of The Bachelorette and tied the knot in December 2012 in a beautiful ceremony officiated by Chris Harrison.
The parents of two recently celebrated their 7th wedding anniversary. Earlier this week, J.P. marked the occasion by sharing a heartwarming Instagram post to his lady love.
